WHAT WE DO ![]() The majority of our patients at Cottage Grove Physical Therapy will have some complaint of pain and/or loss of function. Some common examples are injuries or chronic problems of the shoulder, knee, foot, neck or back. Loss of balance/proprioception or deconditioning following injury or diseases is also common. Our staff is trained to evaluate your pain and functional loss, and will specifically design a treatment program tailored to treat your problems. Success hinges on a "team approach" between the patient and clinician — this means the patient must be involved in their own treatment which may include working on home self treatment techniques, working on an independent program, or possibly utilize the free access patients have to our athletic club facility. TREATMENT Your treatment is based on your specific problems
identified during your evaluation. Each visit we assess the effectiveness of the previous treatment, and progress your program until full recovery is achieved. Our staff has advanced
training in research based treatment regimes that have international
repute. To eliminate your pain and restore your function, we utilize a combination of exercise, manual therapy techniques, and various modalities. The types of exercise that we may employ include balance, propioception, stabilization programs (gym balls, pilates, isometrics), pool exercise, stretching, muscle energy, functional strengthening and sport specific retraining. Manual therapy techniques include joint mobilization, soft tissue work, Graston techniques, muscle energy, strain counter strain, trigger point and myofascial release techniques. Physical therapy also utilizes various therapeutic modalities which include taping techniques, ultrasound-phonophoresis, functional muscle electric stimulation, iontophoresis, TENS, biofeedback and more. Our staff emphasizes a functional approach, with the goal of each session resulting in the patient being able to do something they could not do before. As joints, muscles and tendons return to normal function, pain generally improves. WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MY FIRST VISIT? Please come in 15 minutes early to complete medical questionnaires, or you may download these Forms and complete them prior to your visit. The first appointment
includes a thorough evaluation as well as treatment session which may last up to 1 hour. Your follow-up
visits will typically be 30-45 minutes. Your therapist will take
time to get a complete understanding of your problem (including
a complete history and a comprehensive evaluation) and provide you with information about what your treatment will include and the expected time frame for recovery. You should be given a schedule of your physical therapy appointments at the completion of your first visit as well as a copy of all home instructions. You are welcome to have family members present during your physical therapy visit. Be prepared to have appropriate clothing. For example, if you are having knee problems be sure to wear clothing that will allow this area to be exposed . Your success hinges on your ability to be involved in your own care and improvement of your physical health. |
