FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- I saw my doctor and was given a piece of paper for physical therapy but I don't understand what this is.
That piece of paper is known as a prescription for physical therapy. It informs the physical therapist what your doctor thinks the problem is and authorizes care. This prescription expires after 30 days. Most insurance companies require you to have a prescription.
- Now that I have the prescription for physical therapy, what do I do?
Your physician has recommended that you start physical therapy. It is your option as to what physical therapist you see. However, we have forged relationships with the physicians and they know our therapist's qualifications, techniques and skills. If you doctor has recommended our clinic, there is usually a reason. Once you have the prescription or if you are told verbally that you will need physical therapy, just call our office and we will get you scheduled.
- How long is the first appointment?
The first appointment includes an evaluation and treatment. This is time for you and your therapist and discuss past medical history, current problems, evaluate your current problem and design a treatment plan for you. This appointment takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
- How many times a week will I need to come?
Either your physician will specify this on your prescription (i.e. 2 times per week for 4 weeks) or your physical therapist will determine this at your first visit. Our schedule tends to fill up about 1-2 weeks in advance so when you first call in our receptionist will schedule you for twice a week for one month. It is easier to cancel the appointments you don't need and this ensures you get the times that will best suit your schedule.
- How much will this cost me?
If you have insurance, please give us that information when you call to schedule the first appointment. We will call your insurance company and verify your benefits for you. Once we know your benefits, we will be able to give you an estimate of how much each visit will cost.
- What if I don't have insurance?
We are proud to offer a discounted program for people who do not have medical insurance or for those who have medical insurance but no physical therapy benefits. We offer this as a convenience for our patients and require it to be paid at the time of service. We are able to offer a discounted rate if we are not billing insurance or sending monthly statements.
